Norwegian Cruise Line this week released photos of the newly renovated Norwegian Sky. Following a three-week drydock in the Bahamas, the vessel now boasts several new restaurants, a new sushi bar, a Starbucks, and refreshed accommodations.
New Restaurants and Upgrades
In total, the ship added eight new dining/drinking venues for passengers. Pinnacle Lounge and Sushi Bar, brand-new to the Norwegian fleet, offers an atmosphere of relaxed elegance where guests can enjoy sushi along with an ocean view through floor-to-ceiling windows.
Other new dining and drinking options aboard Sky include options found on other Norwegian ships. This includes the pub-style eatery The Local Bar & Grill, La Cucina (Italian), Sugarcane Mojito Bar; Topsiders (a poolside bar), the Bliss Ultra Lounge and Spinnaker Lounge. Perhaps most importantly for those coffee drinkers, there is a full-service Starbucks. Existing dining and drinking areas on the ship, including both complimentary and specialty restaurants, also received updates.
Norwegian Sky’s Atrium was also updated. It now includes new flooring, refurbished reception and shore excursion desk areas and new seating. In the pool area, there is new furniture, an updated “beach” area and more canopies to offer shade.
Cabins Also Receive an Upgrade
What might be of most interest to some passengers are the updates to Norwegian Sky’s cabins.
USB outlets and new televisions, as well as new furniture, carpet, lighting, artwork, and balcony decking were added to the vessel’s 1,002 staterooms. Norwegian Sky’s four “Owner’s Suites” gained private hot tubs as well as completely refreshed bathrooms.
These upgrades to Sky are the most recent phase of NCL’s “Norwegian Edge” renovation program. Norwegian Sun, Star, Jewel, and Pride of America received facelifts last year, while Norwegian Pearl was refurbished in 2017.
Sky’s Itineraries
If you want to sail on the refreshed Norwegian Sky, it sails year-round from Miami, offering short cruises to the Bahamas and even trips to Cuba with an overnight in Havana. It is also one of two ships in the Norwegian fleet to offer an all-inclusive sailings on select cruises. The other is Norwegian Sun.
