Royal Caribbean Makes a Huge Announcement (Most) Passengers Will Love

Royal Caribbean is making a move that will make lots of passengers happy if recent history is any guide.

Several years ago, Royal Caribbean spent hundreds of millions to transform its then sleepy private island CocoCay into essentially a beach-themed amusement park. Today, Perfect Day at CocoCay offers a waterpark, zipline, beaches, a massive pool, an adults-only area, private beach club, cabanas, and more.

It’s also one of the most popular destinations that the cruise line sails, with literally millions of passengers visiting each year.

Now, the cruise line has made a huge announcement that it is building a second Perfect Day destination. This time, it’s Perfect Day Mexico.

This new private destination will be located in Mahahual, Mexico — also known as Costa Maya. That location is no accident. While CocoCay in The Bahamas is convenient to passengers sailing from eastern ports like Miami and Port Canaveral, those sailing from spots like Galveston rarely make the trip due to the distance. With a new destination in Mexico, it will be easily accessible from Texas, New Orleans, and Tampa, even on shorter cruises.

What can passengers expect? According to Royal Caribbean, “highlights include an all-new, thrilling waterpark; jaw-dropping pools and beaches, restaurants, bars and more spots for all tastebuds; music and more.”

“Perfect Day at CocoCay has been a gamechanger for both our guests and our business. With travelers prioritizing unique experiences and destinations driving their booking decisions, we’re excited to expand our Perfect Day Collection by creating Perfect Day Mexico to super serve guests who want to explore the Western Caribbean,” said Jason Liberty, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean Group.

A YouTube Video Reveals Secret Details?

Few specific details have been released with this initial announcement. Expect those to come in the months ahead. However, the company says Perfect Day Mexico is slated to open in 2027.

In addition, they released a short video promoting the destination that offers some clues about what passengers can expect.

Within this video, there are several shots that provide a sneak peek into what might be coming.

You can actually begin with the initial logo rendering shown at the top of this article. There, you can see a number of items, including the balloon that’s already a signature of Perfect Day at CocoCay. But in the distance you can see another waterslide tower like what’s currently seen with Thrill Waterpark at CocoCay.

At the 0:04 mark of the marketing video, you can see people studying pictures and renderings of what look to be waterslides and possible images of the tower similar to what’s at CocoCay:

These frames for the Royal Caribbean video announcing Perfect Day Mexico appears to show waterslide renderings.

A quick clip at 0:08 shows blurry renderings behind mariachis. To our knowledge these renderings have not been revealed publicly. In them, you can see a dock with four ships (which may actually be the dock already at Costa Maya as it is configured the same way). Then you can see the balloon, a massive pool, and tons of beach.

Here, we can make out the pier with docked ships, a balloon, large pool, and a slide tower similar to CocoCay.

The second rendering also shows what could be the waterpark tower.

But perhaps the most interesting is a rendering at the 0:25 mark behind Jason Liberty and Royal Caribbean International president Michael Bayley. There, you can see a rendering of a torrent of waterslides and even a lazy river, which would be a completely new addition to Perfect Day:

This rendering behind Royal Caribbean executives is the most clear, with a lazy river and waterpark shown.

In the months and years ahead, expect Royal Caribbean to release all sorts of details about what passengers can expect at the new Perfect Day Mexico. For now, these sneak peeks will have to do.
