Carnival Cruise Line has pulled back the curtain on the progress of one of its most anticipated projects ever, giving cruisers a glimpse of what’s to come from its newest destination, Celebration Key.

The new development sits on Grand Bahama Island, just about 90 miles from the Florida coast. Spanning hundreds of acres, we know plenty of details about the spot. For instance, it will feature 30 places to eat and drink. There are five different “portals” or essentially neighborhoods around the development ranging from family friendly spots to adults-only private clubs.
Celebration Key will feature roughly a mile of beach, two 350-foot waterslides, a game pavilion, cabanas, daybeds, a 10-story “Suncastle” and two of largest pools in the Caribbean. (Dubbed “lagoons,” they cover seven acres and hold around 7 million gallons of water according to the cruise line.)
In other words, when it comes to a day at the beach, Carnival is creating a paradise. But while we have heard a lot about what will be included at Celebration Key and Carnival has released some renderings, we hadn’t seen many real photos of how the project is shaping up.
Until now…
Carnival just released photos and videos of the current status of Celebration Key following an executive took a tour of the progress.
The takeaway? The new destination is definitely taking shape, but there is still plenty of work to be done prior to its opening in July — just five months from now.
You can see the video here:
As you can see, it appears the lagoon is still a work in progress, although one is already being filled with water. The surrounding areas still have a way to go until completion. The signature Suncastle that serves as an anchor for the resort looks almost completely built, complete with the waterslides already installed (though not quite ready for riders).
Many of the surrounding structures like cabanas are taking shape, as are pavilions surrounding the pool and the main shopping plaza as well.
The kids splash area still has plenty of work to be done, including the installation of the water equipment. On the adult side of things, the swim-up pool bars are already looking inviting even if there is still plenty of work to be done on the bar itself.
“Celebration Key represents a new chapter for Carnival and its construction builds on our close partnership with The Bahamas, so seeing it transform from vision to reality is incredible,” said Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy. “We broke ground on this site less than three years ago, and now in five short months we’ll see our first guests enjoy the many experiences we created just for them to celebrate and enjoy this gorgeous place on Grand Bahama.”
If there’s one takeaway, it’s that Carnival fans certainly have plenty to be excited about, but the cruise line also has its work cut out to be ready for that first trip aboard Carnival Vista, set to arrive July 19.
We can’t wait to see how it turns out.
