Typically a company charters the entire cruise ship and staff for a sailing. That means the cruise line essentially rents out the ship to another company for an entire cruise. That company then creates a niche sailing based on a common interest. It then markets and sells the rooms to passengers for the trip.
Passengers pay a bit more than they would for a typical cruise, but the entire trip — from the other passengers to the onboard activities — revolve around a specialty theme.
And one specialty theme that seems to do quite well? Adult-themed cruises.
There are trips today where the entire cruise revolves around things that would make many people blush, such as nudist cruises and even swingers cruises. They certainly aren’t for everyone, but there is no doubt that given the number of options, plenty of people are interested in this type of sailing.

Bare Necessities Tour & Travel (Big Nude Boat)
With a tagline that calls on cruise passengers to “Experience the world, naturally,” Bare Necessities gives a hint of its appeal. The company operates nude cruises, with the biggest and most well-known being its annual “Big Nude Boat.”
The 2025 Big Nude Boat sails on Norwegian Pearl and is already sold out. During that 11-day cruise, passengers will depart Miami for Great Stirrup Cay, San Juan, St. Maarten, St. Lucia and more. And while on the ship at least, clothing is completely optional. Clothing is required in dining rooms, but apart from that, you’re allowed to be nude while at sea. (The cruise line does require passengers to sit on towels whenever seated.)
In addition to the Big Nude Boat, the company also offers other nudist cruises. And while these sailings are definitely adult, don’t mistake them for being hedonistic. For instance, Bare Necessities states clearly that their cruises “are not sexual.” They go on to say “If you are seeking a lifestyle/swinger cruise, we are not the right product for you.” In addition, “lingerie, fetish-wear and excessive genital jewelry are not appropriate at any time” on the cruise.

Temptation Cruises
If you’re wanting adult fun and an adults-only atmosphere, Temptation Cruises may be just the thing. This charter cruise has gone on for years and in 2025 offers two trips aboard Norwegian Cruise Line ships.
On its website, Temptation Cruises describes its trips as a “unique, one-of-a-kind, floating playground for grown-ups.” What does that mean?
First, many areas around the ship are topless-optional and there are even spaces for couples to go completely nude. There are sexually-focused workshops for passengers. There is even a couples-only “playroom” to spice things up. (Singles are welcome to sail, but some areas around the ship are for couples only.)
And while Temptation Cruises state it is not a swinger cruise, they do say it is a
“lifestyle-friendly cruise for the open minded.”

Bliss “Lifestyle” Cruise
If you quickly looked at the website for Bliss Cruise, you might not get the idea of exactly what it is. At first glance, it simply looks to be a cruise line for couples only. One headline on the site says plainly “We offer fun and exciting vacations for carefree adults looking to get away without the kids.”
But dig a little deeper and you realize there is a bit more risque side to the cruise line. These cruises are for couples that “value an environment which allows freedom of choice and the recognition to express themselves.”
This includes being 21+, having clothing optional decks, pools, and shore excursions, seminars to help you “explore new areas of the lifestyle” and even “play areas” for passengers wanting to let loose.
When you sail, you must even agree to a behavior policy that says “sexual activity can only take place in your private cabin or in a designated play area of the ship.” So this definitely isn’t your average cruise.
In other words, if you and your significant other want to have a fun time… possibly making new friends in the process… then a Bliss Cruise might be for you.

Desire Cruises
If you want a sexy cruise, then just know that Desire Cruises dubs itself as “the sensual way to sail away.”
This is a company that focuses more outside of North America, with sailings in Europe, Asia, and South America. Trips are for couples only and definitely focus on the sexual side of things. There are clothing optional areas, evening entertainment with an erotic bent, sexy theme nights, and of course, a playroom.
According to the website, “the Desire playroom offers a unique atmosphere where sensuality knows no bounds, making it an essential part of your cruise experience.”
What makes this line unique is that it seems focused more on luxury ships, such as its trip to West Indies aboard the Oceania Insignia.

Virgin Voyages
Let’s be clear, unlike the nudist and sexual-themed cruises mentioned above, Virgin Voyages is modest by comparison. Still, if you want to have an adult and sexy time, it’s by far your best option among actual cruise lines.
Remember, the companies above charter cruise ships and then put on their own themed cruises once or twice per year. Virgin Voyages is a full-fledged cruise line with its own ships, constant sailings, and trips all over the world.
The cruise line is famously adults-only and that means everything from the food to the entertainment can be geared more to adult tastes. Onboard, there are no “playrooms” but it definitely has a more sexy atmosphere with style and decor — such as the famous signature red color everywhere. Evening entertainment is a bit more sexual (such as the evening drag performance) than what you find on other lines. And Virgin even has a spot where passengers can sunbathe topless if they like.
Again, no one would mistake a Virgin cruise for some of the trips listed above. But if you want an adult atmosphere from a mainline cruise company, it’s a great option.
